Summer Camps
When school lets out for the summer, parents often find themselves struggling to come up with safe, fun activities to keep the kids engaged, entertained, and learning until school starts up again in the fall. Studies have shown that kids tend to lose quite a bit of what they learned during the school year when they spend summers in unstructured activities or in front of the computer or playing video games. Summer camps are a great way to keep your child active and engaged during the summer.
Sending your child to one of Ontario’s many summer camps is a terrific way to keep your child active. Recent research has found that most children do not get the recommended amount of exercise, and summer camps can help instill in children a love of activity. Having fun in the great outdoors encourages kids to get active in a way that seems less like work than just having a great time.
Summer camps can also keep your kids’ brains active and engaged. Many camps have a theme that combines traditional camping activities with stimulating or challenging educational content. Some camps offer academic themes, like math camp or science camps. Other summer camps, like the Jewish overnight Camp Walden, offer heritage-based camping where your child can learn about and celebrate her or his culture in a fun and supportive environment.
Best of all, summer camps offer kids the opportunity to meet a diverse array of fellow campers from all over the country, and sometimes even the world. They have the chance to develop strong and lasting friendships and to make the kind of memories that last for a lifetime. |
